The streep terraces of the Douro valley in the north of Portugal are famous for the production of fortified wine. In recent years the region has shown that its unique combination of grape varieties, dry climate and schistous soil also produce outstanding table wine. Quinta do Crasto Douro 1998 (a blend of 50% Tinta Roriz, 30% Tinta Barroca and 20% Touriga Francesa) shows intense Douro varietal berry fuit aromas with hints of spice. It has a full, rich and vibrant palate, with mature berry fruit and subtle oak flavours, which is well supported by firm tannins and balanced acidity. It was not cold stabilized and only lightly filtered, prior to bottling in June 1999.
